‘Homeland’ Season 6 Sneak Peek: Carrie Refuses to Stand Down

“What’s the use of being in power if you can’t correct things that are bad for the world?” ponders the new president-elect in this promo for Homeland Season 6.

The problem arises, as it usually does, when people have differing views on what actually is bad for the world.

Showtime debuted the first trailer for Season 6 on Friday, and now we can share this sneak peek at a promo airing tonight on the network. While the trailer felt more like a mood piece, the promo gives a little more insight into Carrie Mathison’s (Claire Danes) new role.

She has returned to the United States to work with a New York-based foundation providing aid to Muslims living in the country. As the promo shows, the government is targeting Muslims in an effort to root out “homegrown, do-it-yourself jihadists.”

There’s a lot of political maneuvering in Season 6, which takes place between a presidential election and the inauguration. President-elect Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) grapples with keeping the country and the rest of the world safe — and doing it the right way.

Meanwhile, Carrie is as tough as ever, fighting for their rights and safety, but she is still butting heads with former mentor Saul (Mandy Patinkin) and Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham). When the latter barks at her to “Stand down!” — well, this is Carrie. She doesn’t stand down for anybody.

Homeland Season 6 premieres Sunday, Jan. 15, at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
