Sorry, Folks: 'Happy Endings' Is Not Coming Back

Well, this is not at all ah-mah-zing.

The hints that our favorite gone-too-soon sitcom Happy Endings might be returning turned out to be an elaborate April Fools’ Day joke.

For weeks, the show’s writers’ room has been tweeting out links to a countdown clock, getting fans excited that maybe a long-awaited reunion of Max, Penny, Brad, Jane, Dave, and Alex was in the works. But the clock was counting down to April 1, and this morning, the writers admitted it was all a hoax:

We didn’t let our hopes get too high; after all, cast members Casey Wilson (Marry Me), Zachary Knighton (Weird Loners), Damon Wayans, Jr. (New Girl), and Elisha Cuthbert (One Big Happy) are all on other network sitcoms right now. But we thought maybe they’d give us a quick reunion video — a rendition of Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn,” perhaps. Even a photo of the six stars together again would be nice. But no. Nothing. Zilch.

And we’re sorry to confirm: Yahoo is not coming to the rescue, either. In the clip below, we ask Knighton about the countdown clock, and he tells us he thought Yahoo was picking it up: “You brought Community back! Why wouldn’t you bring back Happy Endings?”

But again, it’s all just a joke. A cruel, cruel joke.

Is anybody else feeling the urge for a Spring Smackdown?
