Warning: This article has storyline and character spoilers for seasons 1-5 of Game of Thrones.

We asked the cast of Game of Thrones to tell us about their character’s most important scene in season 6 — and then listened with bemusement while the actors chose their words very carefully, lest they break Thrones’ strict no-spoilers policy. Still, each actor shared interesting insights into the episodes ahead and the motivations driving their characters.

Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark)

“There’s an amazing scene that I can’t really talk about but I’m so excited about it. This season, she’s very much driven by the motive for revenge and taking back what is hers and giving people their comeuppance; the people that really hurt her years and years ago. There’s one scene in particular that she gets what she wants for the first time and it’s very exciting. It’s a great scene because you see a change in her as well once she’s done it. And I shall say no more!”

Dean-Charles Chapman (Tommen Baratheon)
“Tommen’s got quite a bit more to do this season,” says Chapman. In his first two season on the show, “He didn’t really have his own say or story,” as he was caught between the machinations of Cersei and Margaery. But now, “His mum’s been brought down a peg or two. His wife’s in a dungeon. So he’s there on his own; he definitely has a new objective.”

Michael McElhatton and Iwan Rheon (Roose and Ramsay Bolton)
McElhatton declines to single out a specific scene, but points to the importance of the strange and shifting connection between Roose and Ramsay. “That dynamic between him wanting my love and chastizing him — that complex relationship. There’s more of that to come for me.”

For Ramsay, the possibility of Walda bearing Roose a son is “a massive threat for him,” says Rheon, “because it basically means Roose — and Ramsay knows it — has got an heir there. So he might not need Ramsay. Ramsay could get bumped off anytime.” McElhatton emphasizes the potential for possible violence: “I legitimized him before Walda was pregnant and maybe that mightn’t have happened. I needed him [then]. We’ll see what Walda produces.” He pauses, then says somewhat ominously, “And then we’ll see.”

Hannah Murray (Gilly)
Wisely spoiler-averse, Murray brings up a scene from season 5 that resonates with her. “One of the things I really love about her as a character is she’s very difficult to intimidate because of what’s she’s been through. And I’ve always been very clear about that. Whenever we’re doing a scene and a director tries to get me to play fear too early on, I’m quite reluctant to do it. I remember when we did the attempted rape scene, I was very clear with [director] Miguel [Sapochnick] that it had to be very late on in the game that she was actually going to be bothered by it,” explains the actress. “She’s had this her entire life. She’s not easy to intimidate.” As for what awaits Gilly in Season 6? “Leaving Castle Black and heading south, they’re in a really happy place at the start of Season 6. They’re starting on a high this year. Whether they’ll stay on it is another question.”

Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark)
“Bran has got some pretty crucial visions and there are one or two scenes where he lets his teenage hubristic tendencies take over and he has to pay for those mistakes he makes. He’s still learning the way of the magic powers he possesses. But the visions in particular are pretty cool this year.”

Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)
“Most important scene? There are so many,” says Wililams. “Throughout this [season], I can drop hints about what’s going on. There are so many parts that she takes with her that she will use to her advantage.” Williams says viewers should pay close attention early on in because elements Arya encounters then come back in the second half of the season. “It’s annoying that we can’t do the interview after the series, as soon as you finish!” jokes the actress.
