Our long wait is (almost) over. A year after the Season 5 finale that launched a thousand fan theories, Game of Thrones is preparing to enter new territory in its sixth season, which debuts Sunday, April 24 on HBO. For the first time in its history, the series will venture completely off book, as the writers have lapped the release of author George R.R. Martin’s final two novels. So now, both readers and newbies will be on the same proverbial page when we return to Westeros, Dorne, and points beyond.

As viewers count down the days to Game of Thrones’ return, we here at Yahoo TV are launching our official countdown: #GoTIsComing. Check back here every day over the next month as we explore all of our favorite (and a few of our least favorite) people, places, and things about television’s most addictive show. From Direwolves and Dragons to the shows most hideous deaths and imperiled characters, we’re going to indulge or GoT obsession with the same fervor that Cersei imbibes alcohol. So raise a glass and toast the impending arrival of a long, cruel, and bloody Westerosi winter.

The world of Game of Thrones is a vast one, spanning several continents, many islands, several seas, a multitude of small villages and glittering cities, and one very large wall made of ice. The HBO drama began by introducing us to Winterfell, the home of the Stark family, but has gradually expanded over five seasons to the desert plains of the Dothraki, the windswept shores of the Iron Islands, the teeming city of Braavos, and many more.

When Season 6 premieres Sunday, the characters of Game of Thrones are scattered to the four corners of this world. Here’s a map pinpointing where they are (or are heading):

(Click HERE for the full resolution version of the map.)

Vaes Dothrak

Daenerys Targaryen: After fleeing an uprising in Meereen on the back of the dragon Drogon, Daenerys has found herself in unknown hill country. She’s been taken captive by a group of Dothraki riders, who are taking her to their city.

Somewhere on the way to Vaes Dothrak

Jorah Mormont: On his way to find Daenerys, and suffering from the mysterious plague greyscale.

Daario Naharis: Hoping to rescue his mistress Daenerys, in collaboration with Jorah.

Meereen

Tyrion Lannister: After emerging unscathed from the uprising, he has taken control of Meereen in Daenerys’s stead.

Varys: Has just arrived in Meereen to bring aid to Tyrion in holding the city.

Braavos

Arya Stark: Blinded as punishment for stealing a face from the House of Black and White.

image

Jaqen H’ghar: Still training Arya in the ways of the Faceless Men.

At the Wall

Jon Snow: A corpse (for now).

Melisandre: The priestess has returned to Castle Black, after Stannis Baratheon failed to ensure victory, even after burning his daughter, Shireen, at the stake.

Davos Seaworth: His king, Stannis, is dead, and he’s at loose ends.

Alliser Thorne: Last seen committing mutiny against Jon Snow.

North of the Wall

Bran Stark: Receiving guidance in his abilities from the Three-Eyed Raven.

Hodor: Hodor hodor hodor hodor.

Three-Eyed Raven: Training Bran Stark in the art of interpreting visions and jumping into animals’ bodies.

The Night’s King: Marching toward the Wall after recruiting the dead at Hardhome.

Winterfell

Sansa Stark: Has jumped off the battlements of Winterfell to escape her sadistic husband, Ramsay Bolton.

Theon Greyjoy: Has shed his emasculated persona as Reek for long enough to aid Sansa, now fleeing Ramsay.

Ramsay Bolton: Has led his soldiers into a massacre of Stannis Baratheon’s remaining army, unaware that his lover Myranda is dead.

Roose Bolton: Gloating over his victory over Stannis, not realizing his political chess piece (Sansa) has escaped.

Stannis Baratheon: A corpse, killed by Brienne of Tarth.

Brienne of Tarth: After killing Stannis and confirming that he used blood magic to murder King Renly Baratheon, she is still waiting for a signal from Sansa so she can save her.

King’s Landing

Cersei Lannister: Recovering at the Red Keep, after being forced to walk through the city naked as a septa cried “Shame!”

Jaime Lannister: On a ship bearing the corpse of his daughter, Myrcella, who was poisoned by Ellaria Sand.

Tommen Baratheon: Sulking like an adolescent because he can’t stand up to the High Sparrow.

Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish: Has made a deal with Cersei to attack the Boltons at Winterfell, while also striking a deal with Olenna Tyrell, to give her evidence against Cersei to use with the High Sparrow.

Margaery Tyrell: Still locked up by the Faith Militant.

The High Sparrow: He’s holding a queen captive and a king cowed, while enjoying the adoration of multitudes.

The Twins

Walder Frey: Last seen getting scolded by a farmer for murdering his guests during the Red Wedding.

Edmure Tully: Held hostage by the Freys.

Riverrun

Brynden Tully: After escaping the Red Wedding, he’s probably still holed up here, waiting to exact his revenge.

Dorne

Doran Martell: He sent Myrcella Baratheon home with Jaime Lannister, but his plans were foiled by Ellaria Sand.

Ellaria Sand: Oberyn’s lover has secured her revenge by murdering Myrcella with poison.

Iron Islands

Balon Greyjoy: Last seen disowning his son, Theon, who’d been castrated.

Yara Greyjoy: Tried to rescue her brother, Theon, from Winterfell, but when he refused, sailed back home.

Euron Greyjoy: Balon’s younger brother returns home from sea.

Old Town

Samwell Tarly: Studying to become a maester in order to replace Aemon Targaryen.

Gilly: Along with her baby, she is accompanying Sam on his journey.

The Vale

Robin Arryn: The future Lord of the Vale is taking sword-fighting lessons.

The Tower of Joy

Eagle-eyed fans have noticed Season 6 footage that featured Targaryen armor. This is probably a flashback to the time of Robert Baratheon’s rebellion, when Ned Stark famously found his sister dying in a pool of blood in this tower.

Game of Thrones Season 6 premieres Sunday, April 24 at 9 p.m. on HBO.
