Erykah Badu Disses Iggy Azalea, Introduces 'Tyrone' on 'Soul Train Awards'

Soulful songstress Erykah Badu hosted The Soul Train Awards on Sunday, and the internet exploded just minutes into her opening monologue. After humorously instituting a “no rapper” policy during her hosting of the awards show, she launched into an only mildly funny bit involving rappers calling her to check in if they were exempt from her rule. The mic drop moment was a “call” from Iggy Azalea, whom Ms. Badu said was indeed exempt from the policy, saying “you can come cause what you’re doing is definitely not rap.”

Later on in the broadcast, the phone bit made its way back, this time as a setup for Badu to launch into one of her greatest hits, “Call Tyrone” where the actual* Tyrone made an appearance.

*most likely an actor, because who could really say if it’s the “real” Tyrone?
