Emmy Host Andy Samberg Gets Ready to Drop the Mic in New Poster

For a funny guy, Andy Samberg sure can look serious when the occasion demands. And the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star is certainly super serious in the new poster for the 67th Emmy Awards, which he’ll be hosting on Fox on Sept. 20. It’s Samberg’s first time emceeing television’s biggest night, and that might explain why he’s so intense. Or maybe he’s just rooting extra hard for his co-star and TV boss, Andre Braugher, who picked up his second consecutive nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series as the 99th precinct’s main man, Capt. Ray Holt.

Samberg picked an interesting year to host the Emmys. Thanks to the rise of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon, there are more shows and more networks in the awards mix than ever before and many of the categories are a murderers’ row of talent. Braugher, for example, is nominated alongside supporting scene-stealers like The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Tituss Burgess, Key & Peele’s Keegan-Michael Key and Veep’s Tony Hale. And the choices just get harder from there: How do you pick between Parks and Recreation and Transparent for Best Comedy Series? Or Better Call Saul and Game of Thrones for Best Drama? So we can’t blame Samberg for taking this seriously. The Emmys may be celebrating entertainment, but they’re also serious business.

The 67th Emmy Awards air Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
