'David Letterman': Listen to a Beautiful Warren Zevon Song From Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires

As David Letterman prepares to leave late-night television, he’s been requesting musical guests and songs he’s fond of. Last week, for instance, Tracy Chapman performed “Stand By Me,” an oldie that Letterman said he used to sing to his son, Harry, when the boy was younger.

On Friday’s show, the musical guests were Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires. They did a beautiful version of Warren Zevon’s “Mutineer.” The late Zevon was one of Letterman’s most cherished musical friends, sharing a bind that went beyond music. Isbell and Shires did Zevon proud:

Isbell has a new album coming out in July, and it will be well worth hearing. I imagine Letterman will be listening to it in the days he’ll have free by then.

The Late Show With David Letterman airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
