Emmy Winners Reveal Non-Industry Awards They're Most Proud Of

Winning an Emmy is generally considered the pinnacle of achievement for any television professional. But while on the red carpet at the Creative Arts Emmys, held on Sept. 12 in Los Angeles, Yahoo TV discovered that there other awards that the industry’s actors and technicians prize just as highly. Asked which non-industry award they’re proudest of receiving, the attendees rewarded us with a wide range of answers and awards. Anthony Bourdain, who earned an Outstanding Informational Series or Special Emmy for his CNN series Parts Unknown, boasted of his recently acquired blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Meanwhile, Adventure Time’s Kent Osborn was honored at the young age of 17 with Wendy’s coveted “Employee of the Month” honor. And then there’s Syd Cassyd Founders Award recipient, Spike Jones, Jr., who said that his Emmy is he first award he’s ever won. Ever. “That’s either very exciting or depressing as hell,” he adds with a laugh.

Our cameras captured a number of other celebrities backstage at the star-studded event. House of Cards Emmy-winning guest actor Reg E. Carter confessed to being “speech-less,” having neglected to bring along an acceptance speech for his award. Meanwhile, @Midnight’s Chris Hardwick owned up to cutting his hand on his new piece of Emmy hardware. “I had it for a second and it’s already attacked me!” Here’s a question: can you still call yourself a nerd…um, make that nerdist if you’re clutching an Emmy?

The Creative Arts Emmys air Saturday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. on FXX. The 67th Emmy Awards air Sept. 20 on Fox. Be sure to tune into Yahoo’s live Emmys pre-show on September 20th at 3:30 PM PT/ 6:30 PM ET.
