This Video of WestJet’s Acts of Kindness Will Restore Your Faith in Christmas

People had already heard about WestJet overachieving with its goal of 12,000 random acts of kindness in 24 hours – but the airline’s video of the accomplishment is one of the viral hits of Christmas as well.

At last count, the “WestJet Christmas Miracle” video was approaching 1.3 million hits on YouTube. But the more impressive number is the total amount of good deeds, big and small, the Canadian airline accomplished: more than double the original goal with over 30,000.

“WestJet you guys are truly amazing,” one YouTube commenter said. “People will say that this type of media is just for promotion. I counter here with: Large companies using their own money to do good things, spread the message of social responsibility and take pride in what they do… Indeed something we should all aspire to do.”

The original goal of 12,000 mini-miracles was meant to represent one per WestJet employee – “We’re going to use the good in us to celebrate the good in others,” the video says. Here are some of the miracles highlighted in the video:

  • Tickets to Disney World for the Nova Scotia family of a man who recently died of cancer.

  • Flights to Vancouver for the entire Los Angeles audience of The Ellen DeGeneres Show (As Oprah might say, “You get a flight! You get a flight!”).

  • A Canadian veteran wounded in Afghanistan receiving a family vacation to Hawaii – “yeah, right” was his initial reaction.

  • Warm blankets for the homeless.

  • Presents for a child on the beach in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

  • Doing community chores in Orlando, Fla.

This isn’t the first time WestJet has been an embodiment of the spirit of Christmas. In last year’s Christmas Miracle video, the airline brought gifts for an entire community in the Dominican Republic.
