Watch Old-School Cubans Try American Candy for the First Time
HAVANA — The U.S. embargo against Cuba means that its citizens are unfamiliar with one of the best parts of being American: our vast and diverse candy supply.
The employees of Fresa y Chocolate, a Havana café, agreed to sample and review some American sweets that were carefully selected for this experiment. (OK, hastily grabbed off the shelf of a Miami Walgreens.) Manuel Quintero Gallego, 59, Osmany Diago Flores, 37, and Bernando Alvarez Meralla, 63, took advantage of a slow day at the café to participate in this cultural exchange.

They tried Butterfinger, Starburst, Pumpkin Spice Oreos, and Nestlé Crunch. In spite of some difficulty pronouncing the names of the treats, there was no shortage of eating and dispensing opinions.
The most adorable moment — not captured on film — was when Gallego (left) asked if “Pumpkin Spice” was a cookie for vegetarians. To see how the rest of the taste test went, check out the video!
