Oh Baby! — Couple Uses Southwest Jet to Announce Pregnancy

A new baby brings a lot of love to a family.

That’s why one couple chose to make their pregnancy announcement on Love Field in Dallas, Texas.

As avid travelers, Jay and Payal Patel wanted to announce their pregnancy with a travel related theme. That’s when Jay had the idea to cold call Southwest Airlines and ask if they could take a few photos with a plane. While supportive, his wife didn’t hold her breath.

“I mean, I totally admit I was very skeptical that he was going to be able to make this happen,” Payal told WFAA News.

To their surprise, the Dallas-based airline called them back, and a few days before Thanksgiving, they were invited to do a photo shoot at Love Field.

Jay’s brother snapped photos of the parents-to-be posing with the plane, sitting in the cockpit, and lounging on the engine cowling.

But the winning shot was taken underneath a Southwest 737 next to a heart.

For Southwest Airlines, it was the first time that anyone asked to do a birth announcement. The original request, and a little luck, made the airline say yes.

“The timing was perfect, because we had an aircraft that was coming in that had never been flown before in revenue service, and we thought what better way?” said Derek Hubbard of Southwest Airlines. “It’s on the ground for a couple days, let’s get the couple in. It has the new branding on it, and it was just the right opportunity at the right time.”

The Patel’s shared their announcement on social media, and have received a lot of attention from well-wishers around the country.

As for baby Patel, something tells us he or she is going to have a lot of frequent flyer miles!
