An anonymous woman toiled for 40 minutes trying to save the life of a fellow passenger on a Ryanair flight from the Canary Islands earlier this week.

When a sick passenger had a heart attack at 35,000 feet, this woman — who was flying with her two children — responded to announcement asking for any doctors on board, saying she’d worked for an airline for 14 years.

She then battled to save the man for the next 40 minutes while the plane was diverted to Cork, Ireland — never stopping, even during a bumpy landing. Medics met the sick passenger upon arrival and took him to a hospital, but unfortunately he passed away despite the travel angel’s efforts.

No one knows yet who the woman was. Another passenger, Kitty Dollah, told the Irish Echo, "Because of the weather, when we were landing the plane tilted so much before we hit the ground, the whole plane screamed, but that woman never stopped. Her kids watched patiently, they didn’t flicker. The woman inspired me I’ll never look at life the same again.”

Ryanair issues a statement, saying, “The crew assisted the customer and in line with procedures made a request for any medically trained passengers to come forward, and called ahead to request medical assistance on the ground. The aircraft landed normally at Cork and was met by medics and the customer was transferred to hospital, but sadly passed away. Ryanair extends its deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased and has provided assistance during this difficult time. Ryanair wishes to sincerely thank the passengers in this case for their help and assistance to their fellow passenger.”
