Jingle Your Bells with This Affordable Mobile Speaker

You don’t have to spend a fortune to buy nice tech gifts. There are joy and glad tidings to be had in reasonably priced gadgets, too. Leave it to David Pogue to sniff out 12 delightful and useful ones.

The Third Day of Techness

Five things are startling about the Kinivo: Its size — small enough to carry in a pocket. Its pop-up bass chamber, which makes a slight but noticeable difference in the richness of sound. Its self-contained but very short cable, which snaps nicely into its own slot underneath. Its price. And its sound quality.

How good can a speaker be if it costs only $14? Obviously, this is no Sonos. But the sound is twice as good as your phone’s speakers.

(By the way, the price fluctuates daily, at least on Amazon, between $12 and $18.)

It doesn’t have Bluetooth; you plug it directly into the headphone jack of your phone, tablet, or laptop.

But if you want Bluetooth, you can pay a little more and get this identical-looking speaker from a different company ($25). (I have no idea why there are several speakers from different companies that all have the same design.)
