Window-washing drone takes to the Denver skyline

DENVER (KDVR) — Drones are used by many people for many different things these days, from recreation to warfare.

One day, Jay Hanna looked up at a tall building with lots of windows and had an idea. Hello, drone.

“We clean buildings with a drone. Simple as that. It’s a flying pressure washer,” Hanna said.

Hanna is now the CEO of the company called Drone Wash. His number one employee is the custom-made, heavy-duty window-washing drone he calls Betty.

“It’s expensive,” Hanna said. “This drone is built from the ground up. It’s got eight huge, powerful motors. It’s got computer housing in here, GPS, and it has a remote ID module,” Hanna said.

With the Drone Wash ground crew in place, Betty rises high in the sky with an attached water hose on board, going where no window washer wants to go.

Today, the client is FlyteCo Tower, a restaurant, bowling alley and game center. in the former Stapleton air traffic control tower.

Denver was not always Colorado’s capital

The tower is getting a shower.

“We are not really replacing traditional window cleaning. This is a whole new type of cleaning that didn’t exist before, so the big advantage is we can clean the entire building in one sweep,” Hanna said.

And truth be told, it’s a whole lot more fun to watch.
