New Vibration Damping MTB Grips from Wolf Tooth & ODI x D3O
For years, body armor brands have incorporated D3O’s impact absorbing gel into their elbow, knee, and back protectors. Turns out, it’s also really good at absorbing vibrations, too. So, ODI is using it in their new Vanquish mountain bike grips.
It uses a new D3O Grip Compound that, they claim, absorbs 2x the vibrations of standard grip compounds at 30hz. It also reduces the initial hard impact by up to 25%. It’s the same tech used in F1 cars and NASA’s Valkyrie robot, and now it’s for riders, too.
ODI then gives the 32.75mm diameter grips a specific pattern and geometry to further reduce vibrations, helping your hands, arms, and brain stay fresher for longer. ODI says they found the grip compound works best with multiple little pads, and those pads are arranged in a left/right specific pattern that should be installed on the bike with the colored wedge facing down. Available in orange , black, and grey, they’ll be on sale June 1 for $44.95.
Wolf Tooth Fat Paw Lock-On Grips
If you like big grips and you can not lie, the new Fat Paw Lock-On grips from Wolf Tooth Components give you the same 36mm outer diameter as their silicone foam slip-on Fat Paw grips, but with anodized lock-on alloy collars.
The grip part is the same silicone foam, too, for solid cushioning and vibration damping, but they add a locking collar for extra protection against spinning. The collars are available in all of their anodized colors (black, red, orange, blue, purple, gold, silver, espresso, and olive) they measure 132mm wide. Sets retail for $34.95. The ends are open so you can add their optional color-matched alloy bar-end plugs or their EnCase bar-end tool kits.
