Alexa Chung’s New Shopping App Is Actually Worth Checking Out

Alexa Chung’s name has become synonymous with all things stylish and cool—so it’s not very surprising that the eternal Brit It-girl should release a smartphone app with the sole purpose of helping women achieve her sartorial je ne sais quoi.

Called Villoid (“more on that later,” says Chung), the app aims to “make shopping easier,” she told Elle.com. “So we all have time to do more important things. Like dance.“

The app describes itself as being an “endless dressing up box, where you can experiment, celebrate and play with clothes.” There’s a feed you can curate to include all your favorite brands, which updates frequently to fill you in on sales and new items, as well as the Villoid users you follow and their freshly created inspiration boards. New users start out following 50 pre-chosen people and brands, including Chung, Asos, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, Christopher Kane, Burberry, and of course, Alexa Chung for AG.

The feed is a really useful feature, especially if you’re someone (like me!) who regularly checks the “new in” and sale sections of several e-commerce sites. From there, you can add the stuff you’re lusting after to your “love list,” or purchase it on the spot. “Unusually popular” items also occasionally show up in the feed to help you discover more brands.

The aforementioned inspiration boards are very Pinterest-y in nature: Users can easily create composites of products they’re lusting after with images uploaded from their photo libraries. Fellow Villoiders can comment on and “love” the boards. Chung has already created approximately 9,000 of them, which offers users insight into both her own style inspo (Annie Hall, Bianca Jagger, Ali MacGraw, George Harrison, and… herself?), as well as the kind of hefty spending it takes to actually dress like her.

You might think you’re channeling the Chungster in your classic striped Breton top, but hers comes in a Saint Laurent box and cost $590. At least the app, itself, is free!

Villoid is now available to download in the iTunes app store for iPhones and iPads. (Android version coming soon.)
