Nintendo store coming to San Francisco’s Union Square

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Nintendo has announced plans to open an official store in San Francisco. The store will be located in San Francisco’s Union Square, according to an announcement Friday from the video game company.

The store, which will be called Nintendo San Francisco, will provide “a way for a wide range of visitors from near and far to experience the world of Nintendo, its products and characters,” the company said.

Nintendo’s announcement comes at a time when many retailers have closed their Union Square locations. Last year, Nordstrom shut down its one-time flagship location at the San Francisco Centre mall. More recently, American Eagle Outfitters closed its location in the mall. Other retailers to pull out of the mall in the past several months include Adidas, Lego and J. Crew.

Earlier this year, Macy’s announced it would be closing its iconic Union Square store next year. Shreve & Co., a jeweler that had been operating in Union Square for 172 years, closed its SF store earlier this month.

The store is slated to open in 2025 and will be the second official Nintendo store location in the United States, joining Nintendo’s existing store in New York City.
