Moco Minute | Montgomery College partners with high-tech manufacturing facility

GERMANTOWN, Md. (DC News Now) — Montgomery County is celebrating the grand opening of the new Hughes Network Systems at Montgomery College’s Germantown Campus.

The cutting-edge 140 thousand-square-foot build-to-suit project is poised to revolutionize innovation in the county.

The acting Dean for Science, Engineering, and Technology at Montgomery College, Nawal Benmouna, expressed excitement about this transformative partnership, highlighting its mutual benefits.

“What an amazingly mutually beneficial partnership this is and where we can help contribute to the workforce needs for huge networks and at the same time provide these amazing opportunities for our students regardless of the tracks that they go into in the future,” he said.

The facility, strategically located next to Hughes Headquarters, promises groundbreaking advancements in satellite broadband and networking equipment production.

It serves as a state-of-the-art hub for hands-on skills development, bridging education and industry seamlessly.

“It’s an innovative way to have them take classes on our campus and then come to the manufacturing facility for some hands-on skills development,” added Nawal Benmouna, emphasizing the collaborative nature of this milestone project.

Thomas Luginbill, Executive Director of PIC MC, echoed the sentiment, calling it a culmination of years of effort.
