BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry and T-Mobile announced the completion of a statewide $290 million multi-year 5G network investment.

Over the past three years, T-Mobile improved Ultra Capacity 5G (5G UC) connectivity for over 1.7 million Louisianans, according to a news release. The expansion includes small towns and rural areas and provides access to 5G UC coverage in new areas. It increases speeds and creates new opportunities for businesses, schools, healthcare providers and first responders.

“T-Mobile’s investment in our state’s infrastructure will pay dividends for years to come,” said Landry. “By bringing high-speed 5G connectivity to more areas of Louisiana, we are making it easier for people to stay connected with their loved ones, access educational opportunities and grow their businesses. I applaud T-Mobile for their commitment to our state and for helping us get even closer to closing the digital divide.”

T-Mobile said network enhancements include new 5G coverage and capacity enhancements with the addition of over 300 new cell sites and almost 1,870 upgrades to existing ones.

Louisiana now has 5G service along 99% of interstates, highways and state routes, the company said.

Ookla, a company that monitors wireless networks, reports that T-Mobile is the fastest provider in Louisiana. Residents can learn more and check eligibility online.
