EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) educator is being nationally recognized for his efforts on educational technology.

Chief Technology Officer Joshua Silver is a finalist in two categories by the EDTech Awards, according to a news release from LCPS.

The two categories are the 2024 EdTech Leadership Award and the EdTech Trendsetter Award, both nationally recognized for highlighting educators’ contributions to transforming education through technology, according to LCPS.

Silver and his team developed a student technician program that provides students the chance to intern with LCPS and learn valuable skills.

“I hope to build on a technology pipeline for our students and continue to provide workplace opportunities. This is a model that I would love to see other districts adopt. Not only does it give students opportunities to gain work experience, but they also gain valuable skills that will serve our entire community,” said Silver.

In addition to the national recognition, Silver is credited with creating a film festival in New Mexico to spotlight only student-produced films, “The Tell the Story Film Showcase.” As well, Silver also hosted and organized “Impact 24,” a regional technology conference open to all educators in Southern New Mexico, according to LCPS.
