Kern County Career and STEM Expo aims to influence students

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Career & STEM Expo gears up for another exciting year to build career and STEM awareness for tomorrow’s workforce.

On April 26, over 3,400 students will be introduced to new possible career paths at the STEM expo. The event is set to run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Career Technical Education Center, according to organizers.

Brian Miller, the principal of CTEC, joined 17 News at Noon to preview some of the upcoming student experiences.

“We are going to have over 150 employers there exhibiting and showing off the cool careers in their company,” said Miller.

Students will engage in live drone and robotic demonstrations, with over 600 organizations on site.

“This is a very hands on event for the kids,” said Miller. “The goal is to show them all the opportunities available and get them thinking about their careers.”

Kern County ranks 4th in the nation for STEM jobs, according to organizers.
