How to Speak to Google Now on Your Computer

Siri, Google Now, Cortana, and similar voice assistants are very handy—on your phone.

But you also have a voice assistant on your Mac or PC. Believe it or not!

It’s in the Search bar of Google’s home page. Just click the little microphone at the right end of the box where you normally type a query, and then speak aloud the usual sorts of Siri-type questions:

“What movies are playing tonight?”

“When did Abraham Lincoln die?”

“What’s a 20% tip on 39 dollars?”

“How do you say, ‘May I have this dance’ in Spanish?”

Yes, that’s right: Just speak these queries. Somehow, Google can hear you through its Web browser—and show you the answers, nearly instantly.
