(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Senator John Hickenlooper was in Colorado Springs on Thursday, April 25 where he toured the Pikes Peak United Way Family Success Center and talked about the future of quantum technology

Hickenlooper touted his success in securing $1 million for the Family Success Center to help with renovations which was part of $111 million that Hickenlooper said was secured for 114 projects across Colorado.

The senator also participated in a forum discussing the impacts of quantum technology on the economy and national security. Hickenlooper warned that China is racing to beat the United States to research the technology.

“Most people really don’t understand what a big deal that is, and the fact that we are going to have 150 significant quantum companies here in the next five or ten years and some of them are going to be up in the thousands of jobs. This is how we are going to make our country more secure, our economy grow faster. Quantum computing is going to touch every aspect of our lives.”

Hickenlooper hopes the conversations will help put infrastructure in place which allows the government to capitalize on whatever developments quantum technology may bring.
