Getting a smart meter soon? NYSEG hosting informational open house in Hornell Tuesday

If you are looking to learn more about New York State Electric & Gas smart meters and natural gas modules that may soon be coming to your home, you are in luck.

Customers in NYSEG's Hornell service area are encouraged to attend an information session and open house on the new energy tracking technology.

The open house will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at the Hornell American Legion Post 440, 72 Seneca St.

Customers are invited to come at any time during the event, where they can talk with project representatives about the installation process.

The NYSEG reps will answer questions and demonstrate how smart meters provide customers with benefits such as bills based on actual energy use, faster outage detection and better understanding of their power usage.

Registration for the open house is not required, and all are welcome to stop by the Legion.

For those who can't make it to Hornell, the same open house will take place Wednesday, May 22, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., in Perry, at the Perry Fireman’s Building, 67 Buckland Ave. Everyone who wants to learn more is invited to attend the Perry event.

All residential and most business customers in NYSEG’s service areas will receive a new electric smart meter and/or natural gas module.

NYSEG expects to complete smart meter installations later this year in the Hornell service area, which includes portions of Allegany, Wyoming, Steuben, Cattaraugus, Livingston and Yates counties.

Customers will receive information about their installation before NYSEG begins in their neighborhood.
