Danville’s Fischer Theatre scraps weekly box office hours, leans into digital ticketing

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Fischer Theatre in Danville has announced its decision to greatly reduce box office hours as online ticket sales become more popular.

The historic theater will soon lean heavily into their digital ticketing services. For in-person purchases, the box office will no longer be open during its traditional weekly hours. Instead, it will only open for an hour prior to showtimes.

Officials with the Fischer Theatre said the change comes as a result of widespread research, data review and consideration of best practices.

“The cost for our organization to continue hosting box office hours is not justified, and we want to be great stewards of our financial resources,” they said on social media. “The digital-ticketing experience has become the preferred way to purchase tickets and is increasingly seamless as technology advances.”

Effective May 1, tickets can be purchased either before the show at the theater — located at 158 North Vermilion Street in Danville — or in advance at atthefischer.com.
