The all-new GX 550 retains stout body-on-frame construction like a pick-up truck but there’s still lots of luxury. Our review model is the premium plus one of six trims.
The interior is all-new too. The days of Lexus lagging behind in tech are long gone. Video displays are wide and sharp and easy to use too. Four-wheel-drive is full-time.
The automatic is a 10-speed. There’s a mode where you can see the position of each wheel for precise trail driving.

Row two is nice and roomy and accessing row three is easy.
And one of the handiest features is when you need to get something out of the back you don’t have to open the entire hatch. Just push the button and only the window opens.
Inside the cargo hold with row three is in use, cargo space is almost zero.
The twin-turbo, V6 has 340 horsepower for good performance.
With a tow rating of more than 9,000 pounds, pulling an RV is easy.
For the Lexus GX 550 premium plus I say thumbs up to the luxurious interior, off-road ability and towing capacity. Thumbs down to tight cargo space.
I averaged about 18 miles-per-gallon in the Lexus. The as-reviewed sticker $69,250.
