(KRON) — The Central Contra Costa Transit Authority, County Connection, a bus service and paratransit operator in Contra Costa County, shared the discovery of a recent cybersecurity attack on Friday.

Former IRS officer and his brother sentenced for scamming over $3M in loan relief funds

County Connection said an “unauthorized actor” may have accessed files and data stored within its network. The transit authority still isn’t sure what data has exactly been breached, but the bus service operator said it took steps to “secure” its network and hired a specialized cybersecurity firm to investigate the incident.

“County Connection is currently undertaking a time-consuming and detailed review of the data stored on the servers at the time of this incident to understand what the unauthorized actor may have had access to and to whom that data relates,” County Connection Marketing Manager Ryan Jones said.

While the investigation is ongoing, County Connection said it is in the process of locating address information in order to provide direct notice to impacted individuals.

At the time of this report, County Connection said it has no evidence that suggests that its customers’ financial account numbers or Social Security numbers have been breached. The fixed route bus authority will notify affected individuals once it is legal to do so.

“Such incidents have become all too common nationwide, and we here at County Connection
recognize the significance of this event. Thanks to the hard work and preparation of our IT
team, we have quickly taken appropriate steps to address it,” said Bill Churchill, General
Manager of County Connection. “I sincerely regret the understandable worry this incident must
be causing those affected.”
