Check Out the Flame-Throwing, Robotic Dog Now Available for Purchase in the U.S.

If you currently reside in the United States, you may now purchase your very own flame-spouting, robotic dog. Far from a joke, the expensive toy is now a reality nine months after it was announced.

Ohio-based company Throwflame, which specializes in flamethrowers and flamethrower accessories, debuted its “Thermonator” on Tuesday, which retails for a red-hot $9,420 and is legal in each U.S. state except for Maryland.

Videos the creation show the Thermonator to resemble a four-legged Roomba with a laser-equipped fire cannon strapped to its back. As it jogs through the woods, the creature executes some trick and twirls as it shoots flames far and wide.

Throwflame touts the Thermonator with the dubious distinction of being “the first-ever flamethrower-wielding robot dog.” The Thermonator is, somewhat cryptically, “ready for anything,” according to its manufacturer, including “wildfire control and prevention; agricultural management; [and] ecological conservation.” It has a range of roughly 30 feet, can be remote-controlled via an app, and is equipped with an obstacle avoidance system.

The digital canine is also available for “entertainment and SFX” purposes, making the Thermonator your favorite guest at any party where children and alcohol aren’t present.

Though the invention recalls technology-gone-awry plots like Child’s Play and M3GAN, consumers are for now riding high on the improbable toy. “Love how he jumps joyfully through the flames,” enthused X (formerly Twitter) user @PCPeter5. “Good boy!”

@DEX_exile raved, “The perfect companion for me 🤩 oh my Goddess! Yes! 🙌🏽.”

But not everyone was as excited to see the Thermonator’s debut.

“You do realize that dystopic science fiction is not supposed to be aspirational, right?” queried @GuanoLad, while @NeedBirds asked: “Hey what’s the underlying message of the movie The Terminator? Did you guys watch the whole thing? The sequel? The many spinoffs or basically any science fiction?”

Meanwhile, cannabis-forward outlet High Times struck a more somber note on Twitter. “The fire dog is legal in more states than weed is,” it lamented.
