California to get nearly $64M for electric vehicle charging

(KRON) — California is poised to receive nearly $64 million in federal funding for electric vehicle charging and infrastructure. U.S. Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) announced on Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHA) will distribute $63,702,988 to the California Department of Transportation.

The funds will be allocated for the repair and replacement of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

“Climate change poses a serious threat, and investments must be made in sensible and environmentally friendly solutions like electric vehicle charging infrastructure,” said Lofgren, who is the elected chair of the California Democratic Congressional Delegation. “This important federal funding will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote EV adoption, expand the EV workforce, and spur economic growth across California.”

Funding for the initiative will come from the FHA’s Electric Vehicle Charger Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator Program. The program supports and repairs the replacement of broken and non-operational EV charging points. Funding from the FHA was provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
