Boeing Starliner launch from Florida has new targeted date — again

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Boeing Starliner launch that was scrubbed hours before liftoff earlier this month has a new targeted launch date, again.

NASA announced on Friday that the new targeted launch date would be no earlier than 3:09 p.m. on May 25. A previous target launch date was scheduled for Friday.

“The additional time allows teams to further assess a small helium leak in the Boeing Starliner spacecraft’s service module traced to a flange on a single reaction control system thruster,” NASA said.

The previous launch was scrubbed after United Launch Alliance found an issue with an oxygen valve that needed to be repaired.

The NASA astronauts assigned to the Starliner capsule’s test flight to the International Space Station — Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams — will remain in quarantine in Houston and will fly back to Cape Canaveral closer to the launch date.

Starliner’s first crew flight already is years behind schedule because of a multitude of capsule problems.
