What is My Best Buy?
My Best Buy is a new membership program open to any Best Buy customers. It’s touted as helping you “save time, save money, and make the most of your tech.” The My Best Buy membership comes in three tiers called My Best Buy, My Best Buy Plus, and My Best Buy Total, each with its own unique set of perks. My Best Buy is the simplest and most affordable plan (it’s free!) and My Best Buy Total is the highest-end option with all the bells and whistles. With the three options, there’s something for every budget and lifestyle, and for every type of customer, whether you shop from time to time or make purchases often.
What exclusive deals do My Best Buy members get?
There are Exclusive Member Deals for My Best Buy members, visible via a special section on the website. Featured offers change all the time but range from as much as $150 off iPad Pro models to 30% off PKG laptop carriers, and more. A My Best Buy membership comes with tons of perks, including free shipping without order minimums, tech support as needed, exclusive access to sales and events, extended return periods, and even the inclusion of protection plans with eligible purchases. Additionally, My Best Buy plans make it simple to keep track of your orders, see your purchase history, and quickly checkout when you need to buy items in a pinch.
What are the different My Best Buy memberships?
As noted, there are three My Best Buy membership tiers.
My Best Buy
This free-to-join My Best Buy membership includes free standard shipping on purchases you make online, with no minimum amount, though there are some exclusions. All you need to do to join is sign in with your e-mail address and password if you already have an existing Best Buy account. You can also sign in with a Passkey, Apple, or Google. If you don’t have an account, create one online by going to the Account tab at the top of the homepage and selecting “Create Account.” You’ll need to include your first and last name, e-mail address, a secure password, and your phone number, which is used for account recovery purposes. You can also easily sign up with Google without having to input these credentials.
My Best Buy Plus
For an annual fee of $49.99, you get the same free standard shipping that’s included in the standard My Best Buy plan, as well as free 2-day shipping on eligible items (in areas where 2-day shipping is available), exclusive member prices on thousands of items, exclusive access to sales, events, and products, and an extended 60-day return window on most products. Free 2-day shipping only applies to eligible products and can be impacted by limited inventory or constrained carrier capacity. The plan automatically renews each year, but you can also cancel any time before the next year’s billing cycle. My Best Buy Total
The highest tier plan for frequent shoppers or those who plan to buy big-ticket items is My Best Buy Total. It’s $179.99/yr. and includes everything you’ll find in My Best Buy Plus along with a few additional perks. This includes up to two years of product protection through plans like AppleCare+ when you purchase eligible new products (as long as you remain a My Best Buy Total member), access to 24/7 tech support for any tech and appliance products (even those purchased elsewhere), VIP member support, and 20% off the labor portion of eligible repairs. My Best Buy vs. Best Buy Totaltech
Best Buy Totaltech was Best Buy’s previous membership program, and it was transferred to My Best Buy on June 27, 2023. Best Buy Totaltech focused primarily on tech support, offering unlimited tech support for all tech and appliances, even if they weren’t purchased at Best Buy. It included in-store, phone, and online assistance. It also included 20% off repairs as well as 20% off Geek Squad Protection and AppleCare+. Best Buy Totaltech was $199.99 per year, which means with My Best Buy, you can now get all the same benefits you got with Totaltech and then some for $20 less with the My Best Buy Total plan. Plus, you have the option to downgrade to the $49.99 yearly My Best Buy Plus plan if you want to focus only on fast and free shipping, extended returns, and access to exclusive deals.
Suppose you are already a Best Buy Totaltech member. In that case, you will continue to receive the same benefits you have been getting with that membership until your renewal date arrives, if that occurred after July 26, 2023. Once the renewal time arrives, your existing benefits will change to the new ones. Best Buy Totaltech members should have received an e-mail providing additional details on what updated membership benefits they will be receiving. At your point of renewal, you can keep the highest tier plan to maintain access to 24/7 tech support, product protection plans, and discounts on repairs, or downgrade to one of the more affordable membership options.
Should you sign up for My Best Buy?
Say you shop online at Best Buy at least a few times a year, either for bigger ticket items or consistent, recurring purchases, like video games, software, tech gadgets, appliance accessories, gifts, and more. In that case, you will find value in signing up for My Best Buy. If you are already a Best Buy Totaltech member, you’ll want to maintain those perks through the new My Best Buy membership, especially since you’ll be saving in the long run and getting more for the membership.
