Amazon ending only California-based drone delivery program

(FOX40.COM) — Amazon is ending its drone delivery program in Lockeford, California after nearly a year and a half.

The Northern California city was one of two cities where the online shopping giant initiated its air delivery program in 2022.

“As we look to the future and prioritize our resources to continue growing the program, we’ve also made the decision to close our delivery site in Lockeford,” Amazon said. “We’ll offer all current employees opportunities at other sites, and will continue to serve customers in Lockeford with other delivery methods.”

Amazon said it was continuing to operate drone deliveries in College Station, Texas, the other city where the program began, as well as new locations in 2025.

In the same post announcing the end of the program in Lockeford, Amazon announced that it would begin air deliveries in West Valley, Arizona, just outside of Phoenix city limits.
