2024 Cervélo Áspero Gravel Bike Tweaked to Go Faster with Bigger Tires & a T47 BB

This third-generation Cervelo Aspero gravel bike looks a lot like the previous premium iteration. But hidden inside its slightly slimmer profile are a lot of updates that make for a better all-rounder gravel bike, and at the same time a faster gravel race bike. And those updates come at all pricing levels. Think bigger tire clearance, bigger chainring clearance, more stable geometry, the most desirable bottom bracket & hanger standards, and at the same time 4.2W of aero gains…
2024 Cervelo Aspero gravel bike updates
Cervelo describes this new generation of Aspero as living up to all the same gravel bike racer dreams they had when the first Aspero debuted in 2019. Only now better than ever.
You’d be forgiven for thinking this looks just like the top-tier-only aero Aspero-5 update from three years ago. Outside of the ever-so-slightly reshaped rear wheel cutout, you would be correct. The integrated fully-internal cable routing look was already available at the premium tier for a few years, but now the updated Aspero for the masses does it in a much simpler way. And with a lot of other tweaks, too.
So, what’s new?
A “slimmer silhouette”. A threaded T47 bottom bracket – well an asymmetric BBRight T47a BB. And a UDH so you can mount a conventional derailleur or a direct-mount SRAM Eagle T-type drivetrain.
Cable routing is now all internal through the upper headset cup, allowing for separate bar & stems or 1-piece integrated cockpits. But unlike the Aspero-5, it sticks with a conventional round fork steerer tube.
Cervelo also dropped the seatstays a bit further for more comfort, while fully connecting them to the lower seattube with a continuous rear wheel cutout for smoother airflow. Hidden up front inside the carbon layup, Cervelo also say they “reduced front-end stiffness slightly to make the last hours of a long race less painful.”
There’s more clearance, too!
The original was designed for 42mm tires plus the ISO’s minimum 4mm clearance. Now, this new Aspero is still designed for 42 – Cervelo reiterates that this is there gravel race bike… “haul ass, not cargo!” But Cervelo now give it a full 7mm of mud clearance in all directions. That also means if you ride in dry conditions, there’s now room for up to 45mm tires, still with the ISO’s min 4mm clearance.
Going faster means bigger gears. There’s bigger chainring clearance too. No, you can fit a 1x up to a 46T chainring or a mid-compact 52/36T double combo.
How did they make all that fit?
Updated Gravel Race Geometry
The new Cervelo Aspero goes faster with updated gravel race geometry. You still get six stock sizes (48-61cm) and the exact same Stack & Reach figures for the same fit. But while the head angles, seat angles, and BB drop are also unchanged, the bike gets 5mm longer chainstays to 425mm for a slightly more stable ride at speed.

The new bike is available in 6 complete bike builds, and as a $2500 / 2800€ frameset.
