Safe Babymoons Where You Can Avoid the Zika Virus

The Zika virus is spreading, causing fear and anxiety in mother’s around the globe.

The mosquito-borne virus, which can cause birth defects in newborns, has been found in the Caribbean, Latin America, South America, Africa, and the U.S— making 22 countries where pregnant women are being advised not to travel.

The alerts have caused many women to alter their travel plans —canceling vacations or searching or safer destinations.

Many expecting couples go on a babymoon to enjoy some alone time together before their bundle of joy arrives. For many Americans, a trip to the Caribbean or Mexico is an easy choice. However, with the prevalence of Zika in those areas, expecting parents are having to look for alternatives to ensure safety.

To help you plan a stress-free babymoon, we’ve rounded up a list of locations that are Zika-free. And before you travel, be sure to visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention for updates.

Big Sur, California

Located on the Central Coast of California, Big Sur is one of the most breathtaking places in America. Gaze out at the Santa Lucia Mountains, as waves crash against the rocks below.

Cebu Island, Philippines

If you’re looking for paradise, head to Cebu Island. From March to May, temperatures can get up to 97 °F, so the tropical climate is ideal for a week of relaxing by the pool or swimming in the ocean. While traveling to a far off exotic destination can sound appealing, the exhaustion you already feel during pregnancy coupled with jet lag can be overwhelming for some. Instead, stay close to home (if you live on the East Coast) with a trip to Bermuda.

Whistler, Canada

One way to ensure a mosquito-free babymoon is to head to a colder climate. Whistler, Canada is a hot spot for winter-sports, but it can also be the perfect destination to unwind and relax by the fireplace on a cold winter night.

Majorca has everything you need for the perfect babymoon. The small Spanish Island has numerous beach resorts, art galleries, and historic centers.

Check into the Cap Rocat, a former military fortress that has been transformed into a romantic retreat. Located on top of a cliff in Palma Bay, the resort has luxurious suites and access to miles of protected coastline.
