Without Your Phone, You Couldn’t See the Clothes at Anrealage

A fashion show’s audience typically watches the runway through the lens of a smart phone, much to the chagrin of the designers who’ve belabored over every button and hem. But not Kunihiko Morinaga. His collection, Anrealage, was nothing without a smart phone’s flash.

The Japanese designer, who staged his first show in Tokyo in ‘06 but just debuted in Paris last season, is known for his avant grade presentations. In February, it was structured black dresses with beehive-shaped hats that refracted an otherwise obscured pattern when passed through neon lit hotspots. This time around, it was black, white, and grey dresses that looked almost boring until the audience obeyed the demands pulsing through their headphones and set off their flash, revealing lit up geometric patterns.

The dresses, made of the light sensitive material that has become de riguer for anyone looking to ward off the paparazzi or photo bomb someone’s personal snaps, were just the thing to kick off what is sure to be an entertaining week of fashion in Paris.
