This is why Nick Cannon got replaced to host “America’s Got Talent”

A familiar face will be missing from the upcoming 12th season of America’s Got Talent, which is set to premiere Tuesday. You may have heard that the show’s emcee, Nick Cannon, was replaced with supermodel and America’s Next Top Model host Tyra Banks. As much as we love Tyra, we were sad to see that Nick had to leave.

Back in February, Cannon informed fans he was leaving America’s Got Talent via Facebook. In his statement, he said that NBC executives threatened to replace him after they disapproved of a joke Cannon told during his Showtime stand-up special, Stand Up, Don’t Shoot.

In his post, Cannon noted that peers had warned him that “speaking too many truths” would inevitably cause “the system” to crack down sooner or later.

“It was brought to my attention by my ‘team’ that NBC believed that I was in breach of contract because I had disparaged their brand,” Cannon wrote.

“In my defense, I would ask how so?” he continued. “Or is this just another way to silence and control an outspoken voice who often battles the establishment.”

“I have loved hosting AMERICAS GOT TALENT for the last 8 seasons,” Cannon continued, “watching talented, brave, and courageous Americans accomplish their dreams in front of millions has been nothing but a joy, and everyone has been a pleasure to work with but my soul won’t allow me to be in business with corporations that attempt to frown on freedom of speech, censor artists, and question cultural choices.”

Cannon wrote that this was not the first time that NBC execs had acted against him for things he said or did. And because he cares more for his morals and integrity than money, Cannon decided it was time to walk away.

The former host wished NBC and all those involved in America’s Got Talent well in their new season. And in an Entertainment Tonight interview, Cannon said that he’s on to bigger and better things. We absolutely support and stand with Cannon, and give him nothing but kudos for standing up for what he believes is right.
