We love space. Like, how could you not?! It’s filled with mystery, and also all things beautiful, and it also makes serious magic happen. And who doesn’t need a little more magic in their day-to-day life?

Well, we are now privy to even more space-beauty, because NASA shared this awe-inspiring video of fire burning in space, and it’s a thing we didn’t know we needed. It’s seriously such an amazing space experiment, and it’s actually pretty trippy.

While this fangirling may sound ridiculous, you’ll get it when you see this incredible snippet for yourself.

Like, look at this flawlessness?

We are ooh-ing and ahh-ing all over the place, you guys. It’s. So. COOL!

So what’s behind this epic explosion? Science, of course.

The fire wasn’t for nothing, obviously. It was actually a part of a spacecraft fire safety test. According to CNET, the Orbital ATK rocket was launched, subsequently sending a Cygnus cargo spacecraft to the International Space Station.

It’s all a part of NASA’s series of Spacecraft Fire Experiments, or Saffire-II.

Once Cygnus did its thing at the space station, it was set to catch fire totally on purpose (so don’t worry, guys!).

The video explains,

“Understanding how fire spreads in a microgravity environment is critical to the safety of astronauts who are on the #JourneyToMars.”

We’re nerding out right now, because how is this not something from a movie? Oh technology, we love you so. To Mars we go, friends!
