Think All Superfoods Are Delicious? Think Again

Some health nuts tout the benefits of so-called “superfoods,” but for some, cacao nibs and tiger nuts are anything but super.

BuzzFeed had a group of superfood virgins try vitamin-packed ingredients like bee pollen, mulberries, and chlorella, and recorded their reactions. It seems these obscure healthy ingredients didn’t find too many new fans.

“Everything looked like poop, and everything tasted like fish food,” said one participant.

Nutritionist Margaret Parus explains there’s really no such thing as a superfood, but these nuts, berries, and plants still pack a nutritional punch. Check out the video to see what essential vitamins and minerals can be found in the foods the taste-testers tried.

If you’re new to superfoods, Parus advises trying them one bite at a time. “Don’t be overwhelmed. Take it slow and incorporate them into a meal in a way you find best.”

For these superfood detractors, that may mean washed down with a shot of whiskey.
