WATCH: John Cena Gets Engaged to Longtime Girlfriend After Emotional Proposal

From Good Housekeeping

WWE star John Cena caused quite the rumble last night, after he and his longtime girlfriend, Stephanie Nicole Garcia-Colace a.k.a Nikki Bella, a fellow professional wrestler and star of the E! reality series Total Divas, got engaged at Wrestle Mania 33, right off a tag-team win.

"I have been waiting so long to ask you this," Cena, 39, said, after dropping down onto one knee. "Stephanie Nicole Garcia-Colace, will you marry me?"

Before popping the question, Cena gave an emotional, touching speech, opening up about the road to the public proposal, which began while Garcia-Colace, 33, underwent neck surgery in January 2016: "'Right before your surgery, there would be a time when you would be a little loopy and I could ask you anything I wanted," he said.

Garcia-Colace never remembered the question Cena asked then - but he promised he would tell her when the time was right. "The time is right," Cena told her on Sunday in front of fans, family, and thanks to a pay-per-view broadcast, much of the world.

"You were kinda glassy, in and out. At the last moment, I said, 'Can you hear me?' You said, 'Yes.' I said, 'I only have one question,'" he continued. "'Do you know one day I'm going to marry you?'"

Garcia-Colace said yes then, and she said yes, officially (not loopy, at all, this time!) on Saturday. And by "officially" we mean that she got a Tiffany & Co. rock that could have knocked the best of the WWE, combined, out of the ring - with a large (huge!) round-cut stone on a channel-set band, the ring sparkled under the stadium lights.

Cena and Garcia-Colace took the Today Show on Monday morning, where Cena explained another unexpected element of the night: "My mom who lives in Massachusetts and never travels and hates it and I've been in 14 Wrestle Manias and she's never been to one," he explained. "I slide into the ring, I look at the massive audience and the first person I see is my mom."

He had no knowledge that his mom would be there that night - a happy coincidence that added to the magic of the moment.

The road to Cena's proposal was rocky, though - after his first marriage to high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Huberdeau, ended in 2012, Cena repeatedly told the public that he had no intentions of marrying again. Until Nikki Bella came around. "I found a strong person I consider an inspiration, an equal, somebody who when I'm feeling down picks me up," he told Today. "It took a person that strong to change my view on life."

And it sounds like she couldn't agree more. "My Prince Charming made me his Queen in a place we call home," Garcia-Colace wrote on Twitter. "Last night was truly unforgettable. A dream come true!"
