Throwback Taste Test: Adults Eat Childhood School Lunches

No matter where you went to school, lunch period was a pretty big deal. It was a time to gossip, crack jokes, flirt, horse around, finish your homework — oh, and eat. The drill was simple: get in line, grab a tray, and populate it with items from the daily menu. Feel nostalgic yet? Buzzfeed got a group of adults to step back in time with some key lunches from their childhood.

Pizza, chicken nuggets, turkey, teriyaki chicken, and a burrito were all included in the fare. Within a few bites, the taste testers soon realized their the foods from their schooldays were not as great as their younger selves thought. (Granted, your taste buds do change as you get older.)

While pizza and turkey were tolerable to eat, the others were not so pleasant. Someone said of chicken nuggets, served with a side of chickpeas, mind you, “It tastes like something you would pick up off the floor with a heavy broom.” Yikes. Another said that the teriyaki chicken “could be dog food.” As for the burrito, one commented, “This is just a gas station burrito, and not even a good gas station burrito.”

After the humorous taste-test, a thoughtful question appears: should we be feeding kids better food? Watch the video to see the breakdown of every meal.
