Plus-size model Tess Holliday has always been an incredible body-positive inspiration for us, but now that she’s having a baby (!!!), she’s tackling a new stigma — being plus-size while you’re pregnant.

Yesterday the model posted a selfie on Instagram of her pregnant belly from the side. “When people say to me ‘I can’t tell you’re pregnant’. . . I will continue to live unapologetically, to thrive in this body, prove the naysayers wrong & laugh at the ignorance,” she wrote in the caption, hashtagging the post “#babyhollidayontheway #37weeks #effyourbeautystandards #plussizepregnancy”.

It’s possible Tess’s latest pic is meant as a response to nasty comments on her nude pregnancy shot for The Telegraph that she posted earlier this week, which also included a quote from her interview. “What I want to say to you is that when people told me I couldn’t model, I would always think, I’ve literally had some of the shittiest things happen to me and survived them, so me being a model is not the most ridiculous thing that I have had happen to me,” she wrote. “I’ve never taken no for an answer.”

And that’s exactly why Tess won’t take any of the hate from naysayers who are telling her that her weight hides her pregnancy. Comments like these are an attempt to hurt plus-size women and minimize everything they do.

Having another baby has been a beautiful process & at times, frustrating. As I enter my 8th month, my body overall looks the same other than my belly & I'm okay with that. What I've had to be learn to be okay with (WHICH IS NOT COOL) is the fact that people still think it's okay to comment on my body: "you don't look pregnant", "you must be have quadruplets", "you are putting your baby at risk" & a slew of other uneducated statements that are very far from my reality . When "celebrities" are pregnant in the press, they look glamorous, toned & are eager to talk about how they are going to get the baby weight off. While I've done my best to look as put together as possible, that's not real life, & it's not for most women. I'm not the first plus size woman in the public eye to have a baby & share it with the world, & I certainly won't be the last. However I'm part of a small minority that's telling you it's okay to not have a perfect baby bump, or not show at all, to be plus size & have a healthy child, & most importantly to find a care provider that doesn't shame you about your size. It's also okay to tell someone to fuck off when they give you unsolicited advice about what's "best" for you & your baby. As women, we know what's best & that's our business.. “I’m not the first plus size woman in the public eye to have a baby & share it with the world, & I certainly won’t be the last,” Tess wrote on Instagram back in April. “. . . I’m part of a small minority that’s telling you it’s okay to not have a perfect baby bump, or not show at all, to be plus size & have a healthy child, & most importantly to find a care provider that doesn’t shame you about your size.”

As always, Tess Holliday is responding to negativity about her body by flaunting those curves, and we couldn’t be happier about it. Congrats, Tess, on your baby-on-the-way — your baby is oh so lucky to have such a body-positive role model as a mom. <3
