This Teen's Tweet Is Inspiring Pet Owners to Share Their Incredible Adoption Stories
With just one short message sent out on Twitter, one 19-year-old student has started the most amazing campaign for shelter animals.
Cheyenne Halsey, a student at the University of Cincinnati and veterinary assistant from Dayton, Ohio, recently shared a message with friends on Twitter about the importance of adopting animals, according to Buzzfeed. It was a simple statement, but it unleashed a wave of stories from pet parents who got their cats or dogs from rescue organizations.
QUIT BUYING $2500 DOGS FROM PET STORES WHEN THERE ARE $60 DOGS IN SHELTERS THAT NEED HOMES AND ARE BEING EUTHANIZED https://t.co/k2h7bdFNY2

Her message quickly went viral, racking up more than 400,000 likes and 225,000 retweets. Many responders applauded her for standing up for what she believes in. And now people everywhere are replying to her tweet with their own adoption stories to spread awareness.

The sweet stories are not only heartwarming-they're all serving a greater purpose and advocating for the millions of shelter animals in the U.S. that need homes. Around 6.5 million animals arrive at U.S. shelters every year and around 1.5 million of those pets are euthanized, according to the ASPCA.
Since her message was shared earlier this week, there's been an overwhelming response online. "It was actually really a surprise, the amount of people that knew absolutely nothing about adoption," Cheyenne told Buzzfeed. "They were so surprised you could get a dog for $60." And let's not forget, many shelters offer discounted or waived adoption fees throughout the year, making it even easier to save an animal's life.
