6 Shoe Designers to Know Now

Taylor Swift kicked off her new album tour recently in New York and although all ears were listening to the track on “1989”, all eyes were on her feet! Sure she stepped out in fabulous Louboutins and Zanottis and but she was also wore shoes that are more recognizable amongst us fashion editors. Here are 6 shoes designers we feel are making a shoe statement and you all should know about.

Paul Andrew 

Andrew spent 15 years working as a shoe and accessories designer with veterans such as Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Alexander McQueen and Narcisco Rodriguez before launching his own line in  2013. Andrew, who won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund this week, is known for his ‘Zenadia’ pump. According to Andrew, “It has an elegant, streamlined quality but the peaked winged detail on the vamp gives it an interesting twist.” Andrew’s dream muse?  First Lady Michelle Obama.

Aquazzura

Launched in 2011 by designer Edgardo Osorio, the brand’s signature styles like Amazon gladiator sandals and Belgravia flats are cult favorites among Hollywood celebs and European royalties alike: Emma Stone, Camilla Belle, Nicole Kidman are all fans.
It’s all about sexy for this Colombian designer. “Second skin shoes are such a sexy feel,” says the designer they make your feel fit like a glove in high heel.”

Bionda Castana

The name in Italian translates to “the blonde and the brunette,” which describes the designers Natalia Barbieri and Jennifer Portman. Two Londoners who are crafting shoes are sexy but also comfortable.“We work a lot with the element of transparency and geometry. The use of naked mesh on the skin is not only for it to look aesthetically beautiful but also for comfort.” says Portman. “When the foot swells, the material expands with you, making the shoe altogether far more comfortable for long wear.”

Aperlaï 

The collection was launched in 2009 by the 30 year-old designer Alessandra Lanvin. (Yes she is part of the Lanvin family. )The shoes, both colorful and graphic are influenced by masters like Pollock, Picasso and Mondrian but her most famous style is the “Geisha” a slightly more feminine shoe with a delicate strap.

Jerome Rousseau

Based in LA, the Canadian born and London trained designer is known for his “thorn” heel. “The geometric heel adds a certain toughness to a shoe or bootie without overpowering it” says the designer, who has shod the feet of January Jones, Charlize Theron and Mindy Kaling. But this eighties pop music loving talent says his ultimate muse is Cyndi Lauper!

Chloe Gosselin 

Gosselin was a successful model before starting her line in February 2014. She’s influenced by all things pop culture: music, contemporary art and photography that are around her. “When designing my first collection I wanted to create shoes that would be the centerpiece of a look” says the 28 year old designer.” I turned the shoe into an outfit itself, introducing the idea of a shirt collar around the ankle.” You can see this in styles like Nightshade and Lily of the Valley.
