A fashion guru if there ever was one, Kate Young got her start working as Anna Wintour’s assistant at Vogue before becoming one of the most in-demand stylists in the world. (Seriously, when Sienna Miller was craving a style revamp, rumor has it that Wintour called Young personally to lead the charge.) Her A-list clientele also includes Natalie Portman, Dakota Johnson, and Rachel Weisz to name a few. But aside from envisioning the looks that consistently land her ladies on Best Dressed lists, Young (who has also penned a book about the most classic eveningwear looks of all time), has now branched out to develop a collection for Tura, an iconic NYC-based eyewear line that has been around since the ‘30s and was once the official licensee for Christian Dior. Here, tells us a little bit about the line and which pieces her cool girl clients are most fond of.

Yahoo Style: How did the Tura collaboration come about?

Kate Young: Tura is a super successful optical company and they were interested in developing a fashion brand so it just seemed to make the most sense to collaborate on the collection.

YS: This is such a fun collection, did you have a good time designing it? Any particular design inspirations?

KY: I loved designing it. In my regular work I’m more of a curator and I discovered that it’s really fun to actually make something. I found a lot of cool, vintage sunglasses and also had many ideas about what I would want to wear.

YS: Did you design it with some of your cool girl clients in mind?

KY: I was designing more for the cool girls that I know! I wanted to make glasses that my friends would want to buy. But my clients already have their favorites — Selena Gomez loves the round ones with the metal inlay, and Rachel Weisz loves the ones with gold triangles.

YS: How pairs of sunglasses do you own?

KY: Tons – I couldn’t count!

YS: Are there any style of sunglasses that you won’t wear?

KY: I don’t like really big oversize retro ones - they look a bit silly on me.

YS: What is the key to finding the right pair for oneself?

KY: You just have to try them on - there’s no formula really except to put them on and look in the mirror!
