Senreve: The New Bags Every Working Woman Will Love

Women’s empowerment has been a hot topic this past week, and what better way to keep the conversation going than by celebrating the achievements of women who made their dreams a reality! Meet Coral Chung and Wendy Wen. Both women went to Stanford and worked in finance, but realized they would rather read the fashion pages of the WSJ than the finance section. Inspired by women who do it all, Chung and Wen wanted to make a bag that fits into a working woman’s daily schedule, whether it’s a board meeting, a school run or direct to the office, the bags are sleek with a luxurious feel, well-designed and multi-functional. Oh, and to make a bag that’s Italian-made from great leather, don’t feel too heavy, and give us the option to use them in different ways! So how do they do it? We caught up with the founders and owners of Senreve, Coral and Wendy, to talk about their new venture:

Yahoo Style: What was the final push that made you leave your jobs in technology and finance jobs and start your own business?

Senreve: We both studied at Stanford and have been building up the courage and skills to pursue entrepreneurship since the beginning of our respective careers. Our friends and trusted mentors all encouraged us to pursue this and bring the vision to life because they could tell it’s our true passion. We felt ready to take on the challenge.

YS: Working as partners, did you guys have any creative differences when it came to design?

S: We love working together, but often have different perspectives on design, operations, strategy, and many other topics. The differences actually make us stronger. The most important things are that we are able to openly communicate feedback, have shared values and a great foundation of friendship.

YS: Why was it so important for you to make the bags under $1,000?

S: We want it to be a luxury product in terms of design and quality, but have an approachable price point that appeals to younger women as well as more established women. Our direct-to-consumer model enables us to achieve the $895 price point for our signature Maestra bag.
