While the music world would have probably exploded by how good it would be, it doesn’t look like Selena Gomez and the Weeknd are collaborating, and tbh it’s kinda understandable.

It was previously rumored that the pair had headed into the studio together to work on some music after a track was listed online on the Wikipedia page for hit songwriter and producer Max Martin. The song in question was titled “In Her Element,” and was said to feature Abel Tesfaye himself. The pair, of course, have made their relationship official on social media and on the red carpet, and they are just adorable.

Well, Selena Gomez is putting any speculation about upcoming collabs with her boo to bed.

Speaking to TJ Taormina on Boston’s 103.3 AMP Radio, SelGo was asked point blank about the song. The straight-talking singer said that she absolutely hadn’t teamed up with with the Weeknd for a track.

“No,” she said laughing. “No we’re not.”

Host TJ then joked that they should mess around and get a quote that could be taken out of context, but Selena wasn’t too into the idea.

“Probably not,” she said. “I can’t give those people what they want. And it’s not true.”

We can actually understand why Selena might be reticent to record a song with the Weeknd. There are loads of reasons why separating your personal and professional life is important, so we totally get it.

Meanwhile, Selena Gomez recently opened up about her latest single, the summery bop “Bad Liar.” Speaking to Power 96.5 FM, the singer shared how she wrote the song with her collaborators, Justin Tranter and Julia Michaels, a year ago (so sorry those who thought the track was about the Weeknd). However, she did say that it’s about knowing when you have a crush on someone.

“‘Bad Liar’ kind of tells a story of that feeling when you’re obsessed with someone, when you are in the ‘honeymoon phase,’ I like to say,” she said. “I’m a sucker for that feeling.”

Regardless of who the track is about, we keep hitting re-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat-peat on “Bad Liar.” It’s probably one of the singer’s most adventurous songs yet, and we just love how catchy it is.

“Bad Liar” is available now.
