Scrumptious Brunch Recipes for the Weekend

Ah, brunch. That lazy, middle-of-the-morning meal that sometimes is actually at 2 p.m., where friends and family come together to eat epic proportions of our favorite breakfast foods. Quiche abounds, mimosas are bottomless, and good cheer is had by all.

How did this glorious meal amalgamation come to be? It’s largely credited to two origins.

First, some say it came from the “hunt breakfast,” popular in the United Kingdom. Hunting parties would return in the afternoon with the morning’s kill, and it would be cooked and eaten along a huge spread of food.

Second, others cite a 1895 Hunter’s Weekly article in which in which author Guy Beringer implored readers to give up heavy, post-church meals on Sunday afternoons in favor of daintier fare in the morning. "Brunch is cheerful, sociable and inciting," author Guy Beringer wrote in a 1895 Hunter’s Weekly article. "It is talk-compelling. It puts you in a good temper, it makes you satisfied with yourself and your fellow beings, it sweeps away the worries and cobwebs of the week."

We agree, Guy! So here are some recipes with which to sweep away your worries this weekend in favor of eggs, bacon, and pancakes.
