Rihanna’s Second Sock Line Is a “Baby Goth Punk” Theme

Rihanna, Bahamian songstress, notorious bad gal, fragrance maker, TIDAL artist, and Puma designer, added sock darner in July to her list of occupations. In a follow up to her debut, “Murder Rih Wrote,” with Stance, the brand’s contributing creative director has released her first seasonal collection and campaign.

The theme of the line is “Baby Goth Punk” and consists of 5 styles in a pastel color palette that range from crew to thigh high socks. According to the press release, the vision for the creative was born out of a desire to let the socks speak as standalone fashion pieces, with symmetrical styling of the models who are wearing identical wigs that cover their eyes. The statement didn’t expand on the meaning of “Baby Goth Punk” and the sock’s black and white designs leave it up for interpretation seeing as there aren’t any patterns featuring babies with mohawks and piercings wearing black.

The “Most Wanted” print, pictured in the ads, is an homage to vintage horror movie posters, a dark and twisted play on hostage collage art set against a sweet hue of baby pink. According to the product description. Rihanna pays tribute to her roots with “Fenty” — her last name — emblazoned on the cuff.

“This collection and campaign give people a peek into all sides of her personality, from the novelty of the toe socks to the hard edge of the punk prints,” said Candy Harris, SVP of the Women’s Division at Stance. “I think the creative really showcases what fashion is to her. It’s meant to be bold, it’s meant to be fun, and it’s meant to be expressive.”
