After his fall, the 37-year-old sat back down in the audience and was given a once over by a medic to make sure he hadn’t seriously hurt himself. But, after pulling a funny face, kissing the nice medic on the cheek, he was sent on his way.

The actor appeared visibily shocked when accepting his Best Actor statue. “Oh my god. My mum is in here somewhere," he said.

“I love you, lady. My family thank you for all of this. My dad didn't get to see me do any of this, but I think he's looking down on me right now. It's a monumental moment.

“Thank you, Queen, for allowing me to be the tiniest part of your legacy. I'm forever in your debt.”

Malek attended the Oscars with his girlfriend and Bohemian Rhapsody co-star, Lucy Boynton.
