Is this rainbow undercut the coolest hairstyle ever?

There are so many cool hairstyles and trends these days that it’s so easy to find inspiration anywhere. You can opt for oil slick hair, rainbow hair, glitter roots, hair charms, side fades… The list goes on and on and on, and it’s so easy to fall into an Instagram hole with the #hair hashtag. It’s fun to fall into an Instagram #hair hole, but unfortunately, it also makes it really hard to just pick ONE to emulate.

Thankfully, you don’t actually have to pick just one to emulate. Celebrity hair dresser and self-proclaimed “hair activiest” Guy Tang, who schooled us earlier this year on the dangers of using high-heat on temporary hair colors, just combined glitter roots with undercut “tattoos” for the coolest looking hair ever.

If you’re not familiar with an undercut “tattoo,” it’s a style in which intricate designed are shaved into shorn hair at the nape of your neck. It’s a great use of negative space to create a cool design, and it can technically be done anywhere on your head. The undercut version simply means that it’s done underneath your haircut, so that it’s only visible when you put your hair up. That means you can easily hide it at work or school, so it gives new meaning to the phrase “Her hair’s full of secrets.”

Anyhow, Tang partnered up with fellow hairdresser Rebecca Taylor to take the undercut trend one step further: They combined a tattoo undercut with rainbow hair color and glitter. It sounds like a lot, and it is – lots and lots of fun, that is!

The result is a gorgeous, otherworldly hairstyle perfect for any summer vibe. The glitter might be messy, but it’s definitely worth the effort.
